FROM KDS
The demo went as well as we could have hoped for and definately exceeded expectation. To pull those numbers (estimated between 1500-2000) for FAC's first public action is very positive. Its important that these numbers and level of support are now maintained though and we carry on - even in the face of further intimidation which was forthcoming in the Green Brigade's direction throughout yesterday's game, particularly towards then end of the game.
All speakers spoke well and delivered good points which seemed to get the backing from all present. After the speeches the protest descended into an unplanned march to the ground which was in good spirits with a positive atmosphere. The march quickly had an army operation-like police presence with cops on foot, on bike, on horseback, several riot vans, and even a helicopter.
One copper commented to a GB member after the march "you lot think you are above the law" - pretty much a statement of intent for the game ahead. Given the success of the demonstration, the subsequent march to the ground and the effective banner protest from hundreds of CSC's against the legislation it was pretty clear that the cops were intent on trying to prove their authority and fling their weight around - which they did.
The first incident with the cops was one they man-handled on GB member over something as trivial as a ticket check - something they never involve themselves in, its a stewards duty. From then on in their presence grew with the cameras coming out. They filmed and observed the full game. They arrested one GB lad downstairs at HT for sectarian breach of the peace - after he protested his innocence and told the cops to check CCTV - they then released him and let him back into the ground...competence eh?
For the whole time that we've had our section at Celtic Park the cops have never once attempted to enter - mainly because there is no need to and partly because they know they wouldn't receive the same welcome they would in any other section. Yesterday's game was their first attempt pushing, shoving, pulling and hitting those in their way. Thankfully they were met with resistance and forced to retreat without taking anyone. At this point I think there was about 14 cops lined up infront of us. At the end of the game the majority of the section stuck together so as not to let them pick anyone out, as we made our way across the North Stand to exit they followed and again attempted to force their way through regardless of who was in their path. Again, they failed to get anyone and again were made to retreat unsuccessful. Sadly the stadium was pretty empty at this point so not many witnesses to their behaviour - although there was a gathering of suits watching on from the Directors Box, Lawwell being one apparently. I wonder what his thoughts are on the continued harrassment of the clubs's fans?
Thursday night will be interesting - not looking forward to it.

Why not leave the way you enter like everybody else?
Unless your looking for a confrontation.

Maybe TAM but the police I find to be a little heavy handed in most cities where I have attended games, Usually in scotland or uk. Even the police abroad treat us better. I was hassled quite aggressively one saturday afternoon coming back from work I wasn't even at the game.

The exit they normally take was blocked off so the strathclydes finest scum could try and arrest some people hence they tried to exit at another one.

The polis could have caused a major incident yesterday the way they were manhandling folk on steep stairways, especially as they went out there with the intention of provoking the support. The injuries and assaults to folk yesterday were unacceptable but thankfully the way that the fans handled it stopped it from being a lot worse.

The lad who they were trying to get in the section did absolutely nothing wrong from what i seen. Was about 4 yards away from me the full game. It's bad enough forcing your way into a row from both ends for someone who has done nothing wrong, but to skelp another over the head for no reason whatsoever is nothing short of a disgrace.

All day they had been harassing and intimidating innocent fans from the demo and all the way to Celtic Park.
I stopped off in a pub with Disco Dave after he had been threatened with the jail for singing hail hail. Think mr police officers words were " any more of that mate and you'll be spending a night in the cells, and you'll not be the only one from 111"
It's as if they are picking people off.
