View Full Version : Samaras, the Enigma?

Samaras had a fantastic game against Rennes on Thursday, there's absolutely no doubt he has something and can be a handful for any defender. Yet why does it take for the Celtic support to fall out with him before he takes the huff and starts to play? It's been mentioned that his demeanor suggests he's taken the criticism to heart, well that's just too bad Sami because most of the support can see he has the ingredients to be a player, yet complacency and a laid back approach has a detrimental effect on his game.

He holds the ball too long, makes wrong decisions and gives the impression he couldn't give a toss. Come on Sami, the Celts support don't want you to fail, we want to see you play the game the way we know you can, yet something tells me that's not going to happen!

He is an enigma and I certainly don't get him because when he's in the zone, he's near enough unplayable. These moments are few and far between though........Why?

yes sami is an enigma ,as you say we know he has the ability and he played very well against rennes,he can be so frustrating at times and when you think he s turned the corner, his next games a shocker, dont know what we can do to change the bigman but we must make a decision in january window,we just dont seem to get enough out of him and so we cant rely on him often enough ,,,maybe its time to let him go and replace him with a more consistant player

He's like too many of our players. A good game every couple of months. But we're stuck with him it appears. Agree he was effective on Thursday. But, again like the rest of the team, he made some ridiculous mistakes esp. in the first half hour. I was too cold to moan much on Thursday but the fans sprinkled around where I was were howling at Sami and the others for a long time before our opener. They were right too.

Play Sammy in left midfield as Lenny has been doing recently and you will get the best out of him.On the left side of midfield, Sammy is virtually unplayable.

For a tall guy with his talent and speed he should be running amok in the SPL.

Enigma yes for sometimes he runs around like a blind greyhound which leads me to believe that the lad suffers from clipperphobia syndrome.

Doesnt score enough goals. I agree he had one of his better games versus Rennes but hes somebody we have to get a bit of cash for and replacein January. If this team needs anything its consistency and thats one thing he will never ever give us. Take my hat off to him the other night though, he gave real effort

But who would buy him after us just giving him a wage increase?

Same with Brown the lad has already cost us 10 mil and can leave in jan after he comes back from his injury but whose going to pay him 25,000 plus a week, but us.
Makes sense huh.

Don't know about the phobia stuff, but he has enough in the locker to be a lot better than he is.

I truly thought it was an illness..............what a numpty.

Look, he has talent, he has pace, he has a good touch, he's good in the air. I mean fluck me, if you can't get a player out of that.

I reckon a foreign side would take Samaras off our hands. He usually does well when he plays for Greece and maybe his style of play is more suited to European football? I might be wrong but did we not get offers in a while back for him?

It is the second coming of Georgios Samaras. He is dynamic on the left side of midfield, and a real handful for opposing full backs

In all honesty I like the kid for I think there is a footballer in there, but I also think your right with your "heart and courage' comment for I have seen him square up to players smaller than him but twice today he got clattered by Higdon got up and walked away, he wanted no part of it and Higdon new it.

As I wrote before I think thats why when he plays up front he continuosly drifts out wide.

Yep on his game, he can run a riot.

However it's getting him on his game that seems to be the problem.

Got off to a good start yesterday then starting dithering on the ball and disappeared 2nd half.
