The Dutch midfielder found himself 'in the frame' with Celtic and his father and agent even said that money would not be a stumbling block. The player now joins a whole host of big names to have come to Celtic on trial only to find himself without a deal.
I've become rather cynical about players in his category because whilst 35 years old, his name still provokes interest from the fans. To what end these intentions by Celtic may have I do not know, but for the last week I am pretty sure supporters (myself included) have been keen to find out whether he would get a deal or not.
Deep down though I knew it wasn't going to happen and realistically I think Celtic should try more of the youth players. These guys must be itching to get a shot in the first team - its what they have been waiting for.
I've laboured the point before but if it doesn't work out then fine, it doesn't work out. I'd much rather see that happen though than teasing fans with the promise or possibility of a big name - it reeks.
I just don't understand why you trial players like Zenden then say 'no thanks' when you go after guys like Daryl Murphy like you knew he would be good. I think everyone but Neil Lennon/the club knew just how substandard Murphy was yet we jumped in like he was a sure thing.
I wish 'Bolo' all the best and just sorry that he had to join the elite of the 'I Almost Got A Deal With Celtic' squad. You're in good company though mate, hope we didn't waste your time too much.
In other news UEFA are dealing with sectarian chanting at a Europa League match involving Celtic. Brilliant, I think the morons that continue to put the club in this position of controversy need a lesson in life.
However, as I have learned over the years there is just no changing some people.
Hail!Hail!
