Talking About Celtic Once Again

Hail Hail The Celts Are Here
Well, not quite here…but the bhoys are back with the first of the pre-season matches. The 10th of July sees Celtic back in action fairly early, it’s just over a week since the latest Spanish masterclass in the final of Euro 2012 but here we go with 2012/13 football action!
With the Champions League qualifiers being massively important to everyone with the club at heart, getting up to speed as quickly as possible is no bad thing.
FC Augsburg v Celtic – Tuesday 10th of July. 6pm Celtic Park time.
At the moment, we haven’t come across any details of the game being shown live but hopefully the usual suspects will be able to keep us up to date with tweets. Most folk will be happy to read about the game and any fitness issues after the match but you know what most of us are like, there’s a constant need to keep in touch with how the bhoys are doing!
The permanent signing of Fraser Forster is something that greatly pleases the RR team. The big keeper may not have grown in height during his time at Celtic Park but he has certainly grown in stature and confidence. That late penalty kick save against Hearts in December last year was the turning point for many fans regards to Fraser but even at the end of his first season there has been a marked improvement in his performances. Stats never tell you the full story but the clean sheet records we have created in the past two season says a lot about the good work the big man has done.

So, the keeper situation is finally resolved but we need to get a few more first-team players in. We thought we had a centre half lined up to come in but sadly for Jaroslaw Fojut, a serious injury out paid to his hopes of becoming the latest to take on the challenge of being a Celtic centre half. With big Dan away and the end of Loovens in a Celtic top isn’t news that many people will be upset about but we will need to get a big centre half in.
Who knows, perhaps Kelvin Wilson will be able to step up to the plate or could Thomas Rogne put all his injury problems behind him? At the moment, Charlie Mulgrew deserves to be in possession of a centre half spot and at the moment, it is up for grabs to partner him. A fit Rogne is the best we have to hope for within the squad but a new centre half wouldn’t go amiss.
The pre-season will hopefully give some of the lads like Lewis Toshney, Dylan McGeouch and Tony Watt a chance to impress Lenny and set themselves up for being major parts of the squad next season. It is also a big pre-season for the latest Celtic addition to twitter and it seems as though Beram Kayal has been enjoying himself in Germany so far. We only got a couple of months of Beram at his best last season with injury and indifferent form halting him hitting the heights too often but hopefully he can be a big player this season. An on-form Beram Kayal could give us a big advantage in Europe.
So, we’ve got rid of a lot of deadwood and hopefully we can add a couple of players to add to the players who deservedly brought the championship home.
We all know Scottish football is in a terrible state these days and let’s be honest, this attempt to shoehorn a completely new club into the second tier of Scottish football does stink but we’ll have to wait and see what happens on that one.
